"Contrary to popular understanding, taste is not experienced on different parts of the tongue. The "tongue map myth" was based on a mistranslation of a German paper that was written in 1901 by a Harvard psychologist. Though there are small differences in sensation, which can be measured with highly specific instruments, all taste buds can respond to all types of taste."

Well, since everybody is so obviously intrigued by rockets 😛 I really should give the basics of the operation of the three different cycles.😴

Expander cycle: Let's use the RL-10 as our model remembering it's usually fuelled by liquid hydrogen (LH2) and liquid oxygen (LOX)
Both propellants are pumped to a high pressure and the LH2 is made to flow through channels surrounding the combustion chamber and nozzle. It cools these parts down as it flows but, importantly for the expander cycle, picks up heat. Since it is under pressure, it remains as a liquid while cooling the rocket. After passing through the cooling channels it enters a slightly wider channel and expands to a warm, energetic gas. (H2) This gas spins a turbine which is connected to both the fuel (LH2) and oxidizer (LOX) pumps. This is how the propellants are pumped to the high pressure mentioned earlier. Now the H2 flows into the combustion chamber and mixes with the LOX, is ignited and burns to provide thrust.

Gas Generator Cycle: We'll use the F1 engine for our model, remembering it used kerosene (JP-1) and LOX as propellants. The RP-1 cools the rocket as before but the method of powering the propellant pumps is different. About 1 to 2% of the propellant flow is diverted into an auxiliary combustion chamber and burned there; the hot gas that is generated spins turbines that drive both propellant pumps. This gas is then dumped overboard, in the case of the F1 engine, it flows into the nozzle part way down and is used to insulate the nozzle skirt from the main exhaust. The rest of the propellant is pumped into the main combustion chamber and burned.

Staged Combustion Cycle:
This one is really hairy. We'll use the Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSMEs) as our model, again remembering that it uses LH2 and LOX for propellants. As in the expander cycle, the LH2 cools the nozzle and expands but like the gas generator, a bit of LOX is added and the mixture is partially burned to provide gas to spin the turbine. In the SSME, this is done twice, one for each propellant pump and it is partially burned twice in each gas generator before being fed into the main combustion chamber, meeting the balance of the LOX and fully burned. The SSME therefore has combustion in five different places, twice for each pump and once in the main combustion chamber. Extremely high pressures are generated by all this burning; the SSMEs are still just about the state-of-the-art for high performance engines today.

That you spell iraq with a q instead of a k. Pretty interesting stuff.

George Washington DID NOT die from pneumonia as the history books claim. He died because at that time doctors thought the disease was in the blood, so they would BLEED people of their blood by placing large blood sucking leeches on them! 😕

Since George Washington was such an important person, they placed the largest and most leeches on his body as possible to 'suck the disease' out of his body... 😳 But what they really did was SUCK THE BLOOD OUT OF HIS BODY AND KILL HIM!!! 😲

And what a horrible way to die, too. :'(

A question for you.....why did most of the greatest contemporary minds, Nietzsche, Marx, Freud all come from Germany?

I think Hitler evened the playing field 😛. But agreed, a lot of good minds/people have come from there. Can't say that about wisconsin, all we got was a guy who made "Earth Day". Although they do have an excellent winter olympics team...Or at least they did a couple years ago.

is that a trick question? 😕
I think it's because Germany used to be a great country, also intellectually. The glory days are past, though. A lot of talented people are leaving the country, leaving behind loads of social problems...
Hell yeah I'm leaving too, and soon...
