Which dimwit TV executives decided *this* was a good idea?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing poker. Had some great times playing cards with the boys after Men's League down at the golf club. Having said that, I'm trying to imagine what type of audience is watching this televised sleep-aid. It's one thing to be a couch potato, it's quite another to be a couch potato watching other couch potatoes who have somehow managed to muster up enough energy to throw on their good sequin shirt or jogging sweats, and head out their front door for a game of cards. Seems like the very epitome of couch potatoery. I mean, what's next? Televised competitive gardening? Basket Weaving for Dollars? Chess TV?
Maybe it's just me.

Originally posted by David CI REALLY enjoy televised professional poker. I don't play so well, but I love the way the game is like a play with actors. I love the intrigue and the bluffs and double bluffs.

Originally posted by David CI watch the celebrity poker show once in a while. As with watching a show about any activity - basketball, cooking, etc - it helps you learn about the activity better. You get to see what kind of judgements other poker players make and which ones seem to work.

Originally posted by sasquatch672Seven-card stud is a man's game. It's always been my favourite as well. I started playing poker when I was a kid but never for money until I went to University where I would routinely clean out my friends for weed money. We used to play draw, stud, hold 'em, omaha, all kinds of games. Now when people get together to play poker in a friendly environment, the only thing people know how to play is hold 'em, thanks to the fact that it's the new pro wrestling on TV. And no one wants to be bothered learning new games. I can't stand it anymore.
I admit to watching remorsefully for a few years, because I made a modest salary playing while I was in college. That was before 'Rounders', before it was cool, when you actually had to play, and it wasn't a crap-shoot with any two cards. I played seven-card stud, not hold 'em that much, because there was more information available to me. Besides, th to spend time around were just too much for me.
And yes - televised poker now sucks.
