I second the idea for a separate forum. I myself quite enjoy the religion debates, and having a separate forum would spare the others and delight us masochistic freaks. 😉
Better than "Religion" though, I think the title of the forum should be something like "Worldviews, religion and philosophy". Or just "Deep stuff". 🙂
Moreover, I think that since the subjects in the hypothetical new forum would be such that evoke rather strong emotions, flaming should be more strongly discouraged there... for example by enforcing a rule like "one flame = one month time-out from the forum". Religion/phisophy forums can be quite inspiring as long as they are not allowed to degenerate into name-calling.

As long as debates do not sprawl over multiple threads, and the thread has a clear title indicating what the content will be, there should not be a problem.
I think the 'The Longest Thread In RHP History' is a good example. Loads of Spam, but who cares, when was the last time you bothered reading it?

I would not want to be seen to discriminate against our religious friends as they are very good at doing that to each other on their own 😉
