The film is a film, not a documentary. I remember the pathetic complaints about "The Life of Brian" too.
My new theory is that the makers of the movie PAID some churches to get upset and stir up controversy. It's always good for the box office and helps to distract from less than glowing reviews.
Remember The Last Temptation of Christ? Heaps of controversy over that one. A group of friends from my church hired it once it came out on video. We turned it off halfway through - not because we were offended, but because we were bored witless.
How about a movie that comes out in the near future, stating that all non-believers are the scum of the earth, its because of them that the crime is going up, its because of them that our children are using drugs and sleep around with everyone they know and dont know, its because of them that the oil prices are going up, its because of them that the world is what it is...plus more and more and more crap...
Now, how many non-believers will be offended by this or not?
Technically, its the same with the movie The DaVinci Code towards Christians.
The whole protest of this book and now movie is by religious nutjobs. It is a story of damn fiction.
Here's a comparison. There are many movies that portray high level government officials as conspiring murderers or thieves, or have dirty cops as their bad guys. Do you see the governments or police forces protesting in the streets and on television to ban the movie? no, you don't. The world we live in is reality and the novels we read and the movies we see are FICTIONAL.
