"... the best game in town."
Late one evening by the fireplace, many years ago, I said to Mr. Reubens, "Chess really is the greatest game in the whole world." He smiled
as we were putting away the pieces and, saying goodnight at the door, replied... "During this next week please think about what you just said."
Next Tuesday night we met at The Community Center but the subject never came up. Another week later at Kermit Pransky's home, during a break
for refreshments his wife had prepared, E.M. leaned toward me to softly ask if I had given any thought as to where chess ranked. "Yes, Sir,"
I answered, and repeated my previous conclusion. After munching for a good while on a blueberry muffin he whispered, "You're close, Bobby,
but chess is number two. Number one is friends talking. As you grow older, you'll come to realize honest conversation is the best game in town."
