I don't agree with you on that one. No one writes a book knowing that it'll be made into a film - you can hope to, but there are no guarentees. You could argue that Dan Brown made it as appealing to film makers as he could (with the inclusion of action scenes) and there is no doubting that it lends itsself to film well.

I also disagreee with your other statements. Lets face it, the book is fiction so of course it is a fabrication, but all of the most convincing conspiracy stories are those that have a degree of believability to them - and could be possible. I bet you can't name many books that have not been influenced by the work, research, style, genre or ideas of other people - after all, there are only a finite number of definitive story lines (boy meets girl, fall from grace, triumph over adversity etc)

Finally, if Brown is the one who is clever enough to collect these thoughts and twist them into an entertaining book, then why shouldn't he make money from it? It seems clear to me that a lot of people like knocking things that are successful, especially if it is based on simple ideas, almost as if they are jealous that they were not the ones to think of the idea. I hope that Brown capitalises on his success here as he may not get it again.

Read it - then read Foucault's Pendulum .... then argue about the books as entertainment but don't complain that the writers are making money from something that they have created. Instead, moan about people who make money by doing no work at all - like Property Management/Estate Agents! 😀

Absolute crap.
No character development, no differentiation of plot and certainly no dialogues worth mentioning.

In fact, the whole story heads towards one point and doesn't even attempt to deviate.

PLUS, and this is what really pissed me off, is that the epilogue contradicts the point of the story.

PURE AND UTTERLY PATHETIC.
And the writer ...[text shortened]... ter AND with one of the best endings ever written, read Umberto Eco's Faucoult's Pendulum.
Does that mean I shouldn't bother to see the movie next weekend??

Trying to sue him?

What for? It's a work of fiction.

Or is he revealing something that they wanted to be kept hidden?

OK, I can understand Opus Dei taking offence, because he's now written two books in which he portrays them as the bad guys.

I'll definately be going to see the movie!

The actor who plays Chaucer in "A knight's tale" and who plays the invisible friend in "A beautiful mind" plays in this film.

And I love that actor!

Brown belives that what he has written is true and defends this postion...the inevitable conclusion of this will be the destablisation of the Catholic Church........there are some elements of fact in his work in relation to the portrayl of M Magdelane but the rest of it is guff.....he is making money from telling lies and then telling people that he's telling the truth........if he said its a work of fiction' I dont mean any harm' the reaction would have been different....but he belives that he has uncovered some great secret....most relgions are sexists .....give the man a medal........are there decedents of God walking the planet.....i dont think so.......

I think you should read 1984.

All the world could believe the world is flat and it wouldn't make it flat. All the word could believe that the Da Vinci code is a good book and it wouldn't make it a good book. All the world could think that the world is one million billion years old and it doesn't make the world that old. All the world could believe you are a moron and they might just be right about that.

1) You 'name called' first. Practice what you preach.
2) At the age of 16 I do not consider myself an adult yet.
3)"the lost generation of not" What?
4)"if i had feelings" I would apologize but it wouldn't help since you don't have feelings. Well I might anyway I am in part sorry for what I said but not completely.

At 15 May '06 15:22 You posted "your the idiot" Then I hit reply and called you one. When I said first I meant out of us two not overall.

Are you assuming that because I am sixteen I am stupid? I would dispute this although I don't want to make any extreme claims about my intelligence level I would disagree with the label "stupid". I would place myself about average for my age and location. If you feel I am stupid then fair enough, I would rather not be discriminated by based upon my age though.

Don't worry about what people think about you to much especially on the internet and even more so on a chess website. If you feel like arguing about nothing then argue about nothing.
