Germany has always been a cultural world leader, full of intelligent, vibrant if somewhat bossy people with some control issues. To outlaw thought sets a bad precedent. I am no more in favor of scientolgy than the next Joe, but to outlaw it? There are also laws in Germany and other European countries against holocaust denial. I also do not favor holocaust deniers. Despite this neither Germany nor other European countries have chosen to rebuke Ahmadinijead for his holocaust denying views.
scientology ?. if it is your world view and life then please yourself. i personally believe ( as an outsider and poorly read on the subject ) believe it is not a religion but rather a social movement. i also believe it feels very threatened ideologically as a false idea so it protects itself thru regimentation. i speak again only as an outsider. i unde o trust central europe and not russia. a robust but kind nationalism is the remedy for europe.
I do not favor the Nazi party, but to outlaw skinheads and the party istelf only drives these nuts underground and makes them more virulent. We dealth with the KKK in the USA through the court system through civil lawsuits, not the penal system and they are mostly out of business as are the skinheads who loved the KKK.
I am not a scientologist. I do wholeheartedly approve of your views on religious liberty.
i actually agree with you. i am just trying to see the issue in view of germany as it exists today and in light of the past. germany is replete with many non-germans ( but who are still loyal german-europeans ). i would not like to see a return to germany just for the "germans" but yet i don't see the self-beating the germans have given themselves as good for the cultural diversity and strength of the west.
a kind but exuberant new germany would be good for the west. germany for the german speaking ( of whatever religion or ethnic origin ) and not a germany roped in by france ( european union ).

Angela Merkel is probably the brighest world leader. Certainly highly educated!

Germans I most admire: Beethoven, Wagner, Koch, Erlich, Goethe, Schumann, Hesse, Stauffenberg, Fr. Kolbe, Martin Niemöller, Martin Luther, Bach, Guttenberg, Brahms, Hegel, Mendehlsonn, Clara Schumann, and many, many others!

This poses the question if art can be admired without considering the moral values of its maker.
Wagner's anti-Semitism would be enough to exclude him from a list of 'Germans I most admire.' I admire Nietzsche for refusing to remain friends with him because of this gross character defect.
