Can anyone remember bac long enough to the times when my number of moves would have left me in the top 15 of MAP, when if you had moved in the last 10 minutes you would be in hte top 20 recent movers and not 244, when my highest ratiog of 1456 got me inside the top 150 players, when the 1st player to get to 2000 was said they must be cheating and now theres over 30...

...those where the days 😛

I was once ranked in the top 40. I think that tells you how much the quality and quantity of chess players on this site has increased since I first signed up. 🙂

If only all these new members would subscribe, then Russ can start thinking about retirement.

There were far fewer subscribers back then. For a long time after Chris+Russ introduced the game restrictions on non-pawn stars, non-stars formed the majority of the top 20, and were even ranked quite highly on MAP, with 3rd place held for most of the MAP war by a non-star. Now AFAIK there are none in the top 50 of either table.

I remember when Archbold was number one and no one even considered catching him, and when Knightmare_NJ was very active and around number one and we thought he was also to amazing to beat, and now we have players like ironman31 and akizy, crazy ratings, hopefully someday ill get up there. At one point i was the 7th best here on RHP with a rating of only 1680 and i thought i was the best thing ever lol. How things have changed lol?

Speaking of crazy ratings, at around what rating (on RHP) would GM's be? Are we talking 2300? 3000?

I dunno...

An ordinary GM should have a Fide (Elo rating) somewhere between 2500 and 2700. The world's elite players (eg. Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand) have Elo ratings around 2800.

However if a GM joined RHP, they would have to start with a provisonal rating of 1200, like anyone else, and I doubt that they'd (eventually) manage to get much above Ironman or Akizy, whose RHP ratings are about 2200.

That's because the RHP rating system assumes it's average user should be rated around 1200, whilst the ELO system assumes their average player should be about 2000. They're completely different systems.

let's adopt the ELO system, so we can all have ratings of 2000 - for a little while, at least...

it's called a memory. 😉

and as for the "good old days", we'll probubly look back at now and sigh romantically about how cheshirecat only had 500 games going, and how phalabibat saved us all from RBHill saving us all...😉

what'll RHP be like in the future? any guesses?...

Xenophobe was #1 when I joined, on about 1900 points. What a nice fellow - I did not post in the forums for about 3 months as they were so agressive
