Dude, that's just like your opinion; man.

It just happens to be mine as well, that movie will never get old to me. One of the funniest movies of all time.

I don't consider The Deer Hunter a war film. It's a superb film but it's not right to call it a war film.

And Apocalypse Now is just a convoluded mess and a poor adaptation of the Joseph Heller novel, but contains great performances from several actors.

'Platoon'. Now there is a great war film that captures the real insanity of Vietnam.
Platoon was good, I liked that one too.

I always though the convoluted manner in which the film was put together was keeping with the concept of things happening so fast and furiously. All of the sudden the extreme terror and the confusion it causes in the moment. So in situation like that, mentally you are always trying to catch up to the moment and trying to sort things out so they make sense, even though making sense of it all is not likely to happen.

BTW, I meant Joseph Conrad, not Joseph Heller.

You guys both have good points re Apocalypse Now. I haven't seen the Redux version either and I've heard that it is even better than the original (which I did enjoy, don't get me wrong).

In that case, what about the composer John Cage's 4'33" (four minutes, thirty-three seconds)?

You can listen to the transcription for large orchestra here:

I heard that one before......or should I say, I didn't hear that one before.

the rabbit (actually called frank) is either a figment of his imagination, or he only appears to Donnie, and he tells him to do things.. you think hes mad but the place he burned was a 'pedo patch' and everything he did had a reaosn behind it which he didnt know himself so it suggests something is happening and its not in his mind. grandma death had the same time-portal visions donnie did but she is obviously mad, but she could have been driven mad by thinking she was mad etc. the film has no answer, its ambiguous and its means whatever you think it means

I know at the outset that there are gonna be disagreements but go ahead and tell the RHP world what you think are the greatest movies ever made (and why).
My choices: The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (although the books are better)
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Brilliant SFX/Story)
The Godfather ('Nuff said)
There are many more but those are the ones that come to mind first.
BTW: Porn doesn't count
Clockwork Orange is pretty hard to beat. And Kubrick pretty much owns second, third, fourth and fifth places too.
B.

For comedies I like Young Frankenstein, Ferris Beullers Day Off, and I never get tired of Blazing Saddles.
