There are two types of patriotism: loud patriotism and quiet patriotism.
Loud patriots go around waving flags and shouting slogans like "America, love it or leave it". They typically cannot stomach any criticism of their country, and would gladly subvert the very principles their country was founded on in order to stifle any opinion contrary to their own.
Quiet patriots have no need for such empty theatrics. They do things that actually matter instead, like voting and serving on jury duty when they're called. They also believe that in order for their country to be the best that it can be, it should be subjected to frequent criticism. Unjust actions of their country should be questioned, and if necessary overturned.

Whenever I hear the expression "God bless America" I have come to understand the implied meaning behind it which is "God bless America and no one else." Theologically I find it rather shallow. Personally I think we (in the US) have been blessed enough and some others in the world need it more than we do.

But that said, how boring would international sport be without your own nation to cheer on? Patriotism can be great in a light hearted kind of way and great full stop as a way of binding people to the society they live in, but it's a concept that collapses if examined too closely.

I'm not sure how to answer the question though and will give it some thought. Not that my opinion matters, but I do consider myself patriotic in regards to my country. I don't storm the streets with any message, but take advantage of the opportunities given me.
I vote, write my political leaders, and do what I can to honor the brave men who fought to give me and others our freedom. I still want God to bless America as well as all nations.

I love a lot of things about my country:
1. The fact that more people want to come here than leave.
2. Americans are basically a GOOD people who donate more $ and
goods to the world's needy than any other country with a
comparable population.
3. We defend the free world almost singlehandedly for the most part
at the same time feeding God-less communist countries like North
Korea.
4. The American Farmer feeds the world by supplying 60% or more of
the wheat, corn, rye and soybeans.
5. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are the government blueprints
of half the world's democracies.
6. Let's face it...without the US, the Muslim hordes would sweep the
world clean of Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Shintos,
homosexuals, lesbians, Freethinkers, Liberals, Conservatives,
women's rights, women drivers, British Soccer, American
Football...etc.
Some things I dislike about America:
1. We are no longer a nation of producers but a nation of consumers
and we create most of the world's trash and pollution.
2. We have too many Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) that burn more oil
and provide revenue indirectly to Al-Qaeda, not to mention causing
carnage to "little" drivers on our highways.
3. Our children have become fat, stodgy, lazy video game junkies
who couldn't find Mexico on a map much less Manhatten and their
parents make sad examples of mothers and fathers.
4. Sports figures make 25,000,000 a year while teachers make
25,000.
5. We export total crap to the world in the guise of entertainment,
a.k.a HOLLYWOOD, and the world really thinks it is a reflection of
our society(they are not far off) our fast-food is unhealthy and we
expect the world to devour it and be happy (Happy Meal).
6. And last but not least, we claim to be a God-fearing country when
in truth we are the current Soddam and Gomorrah.
But all in all, I'm not ashamed to say that I love America and still think it is the greatest nation since the Roman Empire...but then again, I am a bit biased....and Patriotic
