Patriot as defined in Websters New Collegiate Dictionary: A person who loves, supports, and defends his country and its interests. Yes, it is good to be a Patriot. I *really* hate your last phrase.
I LOVE AMERICA. Don't make me laugh. Cinics.
Of course, America is USA and ONLY USA for you, "americans".
I can admit that you, self proclaimed "americans" say "I love North America".
But "I love America"...
Yes! Of course, you love Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, and so on...
But these are not "Americans"... They are the crap you want doesn't never exist.
The "American Dream": that every black returns swimming to Africa, porting a jew on his back...
Crap. Pure CRAP.

Looking at your lists of likes and dislikes I think the dislikes look to outweigh the likes pretty heavily! And you've not even mentioned violent gun crime !

By the way your point about the muslim hordes is plainly bollocks ( sorry I couldn't think of a more polite way of putting it). Do you seriously believe that muslims want to take over the world?

For myself I can see little merit in 'loving' my country. There are many things that I like about living in England (and many i don't). Of course I support the national sports teams - but only because it adds to the fun. I also engage in banter about other countries - but that's just for a laugh. Does being English mean anything to me? Not really. It doesn't impact on my life. I just try to live my life doing what i think is right and helping anyone I can along the way.

Why aren't the English as patriotic as the Americans? Because we are confident in ourselves and don't need to tell anyone else how good we are.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

Samuel Johnson, English writer (1709-1784)

Is it good or bad to be a patriot? And what does it mean to you?

What do you like best about your country?
My beliefs have "alternated" between several points of view. Enough to think that "beliefs" are but fleeting conditions born of mood.

What is a patriot? A "Nationalist" or one who "goes quietly" about providing life to his/her family?

I believe that as Einstein said... "only when the developed world is willing to part with the technology that is past... and allow it to be transfered to the other nations yet to see development of that degree of technology, can we hope to pass on the wealth of society."

Forgive me for paraphrasing. What he said to my mind at age 14 was,"Don't be greedy. Let the poor into your country. Let the steel and wool jobs go over-seas. Those people are at the same stage as this place once was. Invent. Do more. Give them the chance your grand parents had. Don't be so damned selfish." Thus I hate the protectionist democrats.

What I like about my country? Let's wait and see. They protected the Bund in the thirties in the name of the first. They protect men who molest little boys... in the name of the first.

Let's wait and see. I don't find anything in government worth liking. It seems to be bent on putting mental midgets and very insecure paranoids into power. (See my posting about egomaniacal tendencies in my own family to understand my feelings about so called 'leaders' and politicians.)
