The action sequences were good, but I just got left with the feeling of they never left the matrix full stop so its all a dream.

Definitly not at the end ... how could neo stop the machines outside the matrix ... and his dreams indicate that maybe they never really left the matrix ... But whats it with this architect - Is he telling the truth about Neo and his predecessors??? 🙄
I really don't know - I thought there were a lot of holes in the plot that mean't any number of things could or should happen.
I absolutely loved the first Matrix film.
But the second one just left me feeling let down.
The first one was perfect - well scripted, good action, well paced. A neat little package of a film.
The second one seemed like it was the first draft and needed serious editing of the script to prevent it from being sprawling and directionless.
And after the first 20-30 minutes I was nearly asleep. The stupid dancing to drums in a cave scene reminded me of Indiana Jones for some reason. And Morpheus' speech was lame and cheesy!
I guess the problem is that the first was just so original, it was completely new no one had seen anything like it before. Another problem I found with the second was the lack of connection with characters or development. The first was all about Neo's trip down the rabbit hole and you wanted to see how far it went. All of that sort of subtle reference was lost and it went far more 'all action'. The film has also lost that air of mystery that the first had with "What is the matrix".
The first followed a very small cast with few main characters, in the second they unindated you with needless extra's (much like X-men2 but to a larger degree). Although, I can understand some additions, The new operator for instance was great especially at the end "I can't take this shit no more".
I also felt that Morpheus was a little left out, he seems to have lost his role as the teacher and leader, now he just seemed like Neo's henchman needing saving. Maybe this is because Neo lost his green inexperienced air from the first, shown best in the roof jumping scene. Or because he didn't really do anything monumentous like the kung fu scene from the first, or the part where he sacrifices him self for Neo.
Another thing was the special effects. Although amazing, none of it was really new, I felt like I'd seen it before. It was still impressive though the martial arts scenes really did seem to follow the films, you could tell that Neo/Keanu was somewhat unpractised in the first but he obviously put a lot of effort into the second and that shows.
One of the worst parts of the film though was the sex scene between Neo and Trinity, yes, they needed some dispay of the love between the two but I feel they took it too far and carried it on to long.
Don't get me wrong its still an amazing film I just feel it doesn't have that sense of awe about it the first had. Believe me I remember the awe I had after that, I must have walked around in a daze for the rest of the day. and although I was impressed it kind of wore off and I was left comparing it to the first. So, it was good but not as good as the first.
