Granted that was a horrible movie but why? Was it the writing, the acting, or the direction. It seems to me(and I have seen a few episodes) that the honeymooners would have been funnier if these characters were black, but the TV audiences at the time would not have allowed it. So instead they make them white but they "behave" black.
Why? Because like most of today's "so-called" comedy movies,it wasn't funny. There was none of the "everyman" about Cedric the Entertainer that people could identify with when they saw Gleason's Ralph in one of his get rich quick schemes. Cedric comes across as just another ghetto hustler, who is neither warm,or likeable. The guy who played Norton tried too hard to play it dumb. The wives were non-entities. And it is not because the cast was black that I dislike this movie-no cast of white actors,or any other skin color, could recreate the chemistry that Gleason and his cast had.
