Anyone else a fan? Seems to divide people, either peeps think it's entirely devoid of any humour, only squirm in your seat uncomfortableness, while others regard it as comedic genius. I'd go for the latter.
Anyways, was watching Series 1, Episode 5 earlier.
Gareth is annoyed at Tim so asks him:-
"If you're so clever, what am I thinking now?"
"You're thinking how can I kill a tiger armed only with a biro."
"No."
"You're thinking if I crash land in a jungle will I be able to eat my own shoes."
"No. And you can't"
"What are you thinking Gareth?"
"I was just wondering whether will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark."
😀
The look of contemplative seriousness on Gareth's face is superb.
those yanks have got to just leave well enough alone!
ab fab was purchased by the US and roseanne tried to get it up and running, but they didn't want to have any drugs or smoking in the american version (!)...most British comedy just CANNOT translate to America (thank goodness!). I only understood (and LOVED) The Royal Family because I knew Northerner's...people in the US can't believe that a show like Naked Elvis was ever shown 🙂

Me, I love it.
Often in-your-face, often very subtle - but always hilarious.
I heard all the European countries that bought it are showing it as is, and a US network is remaking it. (So it will be rubbish then)
The band that provides the music for the show (the Sterophonics) happen to have their management team in the office next to mine - so I see the band pop in and out every now and again. I bet you are all impressed by that! 😏 (No, I thought not)

Yes, the Office is wonderful. Someone HAS to mention it, so I suppose I might as well - I'd say it's as good as Spced. In France they have got a show which is on the lines of The Office. It's called "Coffee Machine Camera", or something like that. You can guess what it's about - a camera in a coffee vending machine in some banale office. Haven't actually seen an episode of it yet. Have seen numerous adverts flogging the Series 1 video, and numerous tasters proclaiming when and on which channel it is. It looks a bit too French for my taste (hideously glossy actors who feel compelled to make hideously overpronounced gests). Funny how closely The Office and this program ressemble each other. Wow, that was interesting
That was an information broadcast brought to you by Bidge90 😴

- Champagne. So what if have champagne for breakfast? Come on, it's only champagne.
- Wearing garish designer clothes. The French, semble-t-il, ignore what the item of clothing actually looks like, and instead go for the label. This can be at every echelon of French society:
bottom - Sergio Tachini puffer jacket. Nice.
middle - middle aged, plum men with beards buying nothing but Levis. Techinically known as the Jeremy Clarkson effect.
top - old women with too much money buying eye-catching, wrap-round Channel sunglasses which ressemble the headgear worn aboard the Enola Gay.
Originally posted by AlaSome Yanks were thinking of making their own version of Red Dwarf a few years back too. Except they didn't think their audience would understand Cat being a highly evolved cat, so they were going to make him just a cool human instead. And they didn't think people would get Rimmer being dead, so they made him alive. And they didn't think that their audience would relate to Lister being a total slob so they made him presentable... :'( :'(

I don't now if it ever got as far as being filmed, but I pray it didn't. The only consolation is that there was NOTHING left that resembled the origional
I heard Ian Hislop (who was behind Spitting Image) saying that the american networks were interested in a US version of Spitting Image i.e. satire of US/World politics instead of UK/World politics.
So they scripted some ideas, flew to New York to field it to the producers. After showing them the script, the producers said to Hislop: "Are you suggesting the president of the United States is an asshole?".
Et voila, end of political satire in the US.
😕
