Er, not really. I go to a state school. When I attend college, it will be funded largely by scholarships. I don't own a car, but can change the oil on one. I work as a landscaper in the summer. I am not trying to be arrogant; variety of opinion is a good thing. I'm just tired of hearing the same unconsidered bromide being passed off as a substantiated point of view by the same people, over and over again.

Also, the town I live in is quite divided between the beach-resort-tourist community, where I don't live, and the year-round-resident town, where I do. It is no more or less 'comfy' than thousands of similar towns.

cm we at least agreed on the noble efforts of 'radical liberals' that formed the US.
that is why it seems uncharacteristic that you two would use 'personal attacks' against rc. he is sixteen, you two aren't. the experience you say he lacks, he will acquire with time - we all had to do that.
to defend the many, many honorable attributes of the us (which rc himself will not deny), does not require one attempts to demean the person. criticism of his viewpoints does not require criticism of his being.
surely when one side offers to exchange ideas and present well-founded arguments, something constructive can take place despite the differences.
i'm sure rc can take care of himself in either situation (as can you), but i think it is better for everyone when we choose one way over the other.

Prad, I appreciate the defense but in fairness I was the bastard in this situation since I made the first attack.
However, I stand by the post I made to Bobla45 since I was not attacking his personality or character. I have never met him and have not talked to him on RHP except in contexts like these. I'm sure if we spoke in other contexts more frequently, the situation would be different as he doesn't seem to be a very malicious person.

ps this is true - you did not make a personal attack. bob is a very nice guy and a gentleman. both ranjana and i have had the pleasure of playing against him. i have found him to be likewise on the forums. if you engage in discussion with him under different circumstances, i'm sure you will find the same.

I don't try to personally insult people. I don't know any of you well enough to do that. Sometimes, however, it seems that a serious discussion is pointless for the reasons outlined above, so I will make a snide (usually rather stupid) reply instead.

I understand your irritation to find such posts in the general forum. It would be solved if Russ makes a new forum for politics/philosophy etc. The general forum can then really function as a general social forum.
