Some claim to wave and shout and make yourself look big but best done in a group of at least 3 or 4. Sometimes the motionless thing will work, but the bear may give you a good mauling.
I wouldn't go into the woods where bears are known to be and if I had to would have a shot gun, I still might soil myself....LOL.... 😉

I was about 30 feet away from one once when I was teenager. It had no interest in me just turned and went the other way. I was a bit nervous at that time.
