@kevin-eleven saidRaw oysters on the half shell are tasty, though some, like torunn, might say not. Another nice accoutrement with a pitcher might be like your description of the onion rings, some calamari. Having said this one must remember torunn’s and a famous folk singer’s, wise words, “You can get anything you want”. 🤔👍😉
Please put me down for a pitcher, too. Maybe also some bar snacks or tapas so we're not guzzling on empty stomachs. I'm thinking some breaded and fried onion rings (spelling it out for our international audience) and fried potato oblongs with sea salt, hot sauce, and malt vinegar, but maybe you could suggest something better?

Jukebox selection. 🙂

@great-big-stees saidI should probably listen to that sometime. I gather I'm about 10 or 15 years younger than you, and never mind that -- there's probably something wrong with someone my age making references to Pasternak, Stapledon, and Dunninger (for instance) that probably no one else will get.

TBH, if we somehow eliminated war and wars from human history, I'd kind of prefer living in the 1920's when radio and scientifiction magazines were just getting going.

I was surprised to find out from some Russian friends that Boris Pasternak was far from the hero that the
West sees him. Boris, of course, wrote Doctor Zhivago, but he was like a non-person in Russia. Go figure!
@torunn saidYes. Now those *were* the good old days. 😀

@earl-of-trumps saidPasternak was an adulterer, so points off for that -- do you believe me? -- there's no telling about parallels.

Among Russians or armchair outsiders maybe he gets even more points off for not taking a stand and getting himself shot dead during the purge of 1937.
His non-observant Jewish family came from Odessa, but he grew up in Moscow and Peredelkino, the son of a respected academic painter (his Dad) and a concert pianist (his Mom).
Family friends included Tolstoy, the poet Rilke, and the composer Scriabin.
The West knows Pasternak for the novel "Doctor Zhivago" (around which obviously there was a political hurly-burly in 1957) -- but he was primarily a poet, and during times when it was dangerous to say anything about anything, he worked as a schoolteacher and a translator (e.g., of Shakespeare into Russian).
@kevin-eleven saidWhen did Ghost become a Moderator? News to me! 🙂
I think Ghost is on the verge of handing me a forum ban for reasons only he can attempt to explain, so I'll just say I appreciate your company during these times, and hope to bother you again sometime soon.

Maybe I'd better ask for some ghost-pepper sauce to go with my onion rings and pommes frites, just in case.
@kevin-eleven saidWe accept no appointments here…we do, on the other hand, except everyone equally. We have unlimited room, food, drink and mist importantly, open mindedness. Now who wants what?🤔😁👍

@great-big-stees saidWho wants what? I'm not sure even Wittgenstein could answer that conclusively.

So maybe a burger on whatever bun, with pickles and red onions (preferably pickled, but raw would also be fine if pickled red onions had not been prepared) and of course some ketchup and mustard. Let's just leave it there. I know there has been an enduring controversy re: Miracle Whip vs mayonnaise, but after having tried some Japanese mayo with the egg yolks, I'm starting to favor mayonesa -- and if it's not vinegary enough out of the jar, add some rice vinegar.
Oh, sorry -- I digressed. No idea what I might have ordered, but I'll try to be appreciative when it arrives.
@kevin-eleven saidAll I can say is... Huh?? 😳
