Soon enough, I'll have one of these. I find it very distracting while trying to analyze the board and decide on moves. Is there any way to disable it?

Yes you can stop the dreaded rotatus astrum by not dumping your browser's cache.
Or by pressing Esc. that stops the star from rotating, and you can start it rotating again by pressing F5.
Doc Strangelove showed me the latter one. 😉
