Andy ~ you do not want to engage me in a discussion about your Civil War.
Do you think that the war started in 1861 because The North wanted to 'free the slaves' of The South?
Or did they bring slavery into the equation around 2 years later when things didnt look so good?
If you wish to debate I have facts/arguments/references a plenty. Leave it up to you
let me see...
without checking my library
civil war by Shelby Foote (ok, accepted southerner)
battle cry of freedom by mcpherson
US Civil War by Smith
Civil war by Ken Burns
several others I dont recall authorship of ~ a hefty 4 volume tome
did I pass?
and, as I had the Southern courtesy to answer you, please address my choice of a or b on previous page. Thanks

knowing that he wanted to bring an end to slavery eventually. As president, he used military force to preserve
the union and bring the rebel states back into the fold. Slavery, in a legal sense, became a war aim later on
with the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation..

Your answer seems to be b). I would agree
The South used slaves. As did many , many other countries/areas of the world (including UK). We didnt kill half a million of our citizens to bring it to an end. It happened. It is the natural way of things.
Several Southern states were moving towards non-slavery in the late 1850s. Many poor whites worked on plantations for a low wage with slaves. All facts that the Yankees do not publicise.
If you think the Civil War was about slavery, you are putting YOUR spin on events
