I can't believe I feel forced, in my holiday, to come on here and reprimand you for witch-hunting a bloody teenager.
If you seriously feel that someone should be punished (should you feel so bloody arrogant and mislead), then you should take it up PRIVATELY with either the individual or with Russ.
I find the whole Blobby matter a little disturbing, completely disgusting and bordering on bullying.
I'm sure it's grand feeling all high and mighty and moral and everything, but...
BUT...
I have a nagging feeling this display of rightious condemnation isn't going to be a constructive experience for a child. And in the end, that's all you would wish a kid, isn't it?
I guess the lesson you want people to learn is that owning up to making mistakes, cheating or lying is a bad thing. Keep them secret! You really don't want other people to know! They'll punish you for it!
Applause for yourselves!
I agree totally, thank you for saying this Shav, I wish I had done so.
This whole situation is way outta hand. Blobby's treatment is unwarranted. He's a kid and as such is prone to making mistakes. When I was his age I made a total fool of myself at every turn and got myself into a whole load of problems by not thinking first. These days I have learnt from my mistakes and I hope Blobby will develop into a mature adult in time too. But the outcry that has resulted from his admission of cheating is of no positive value whatsoever, not only has he been banned from the site, but he has been treated badly by a whole range of people who should know better. His punishment was dealt by Russ, as it should have been. Those of you who have dealt their own brand of vengance should be ashamed.
The treatment that Darvlay recieved as a result of being his clan leader was out of order as well. I am disappointed by certain members of this site who seem to have lost all tolerance and hope that this does not become a regular feature.
shavixmir,
I agree, this Blobby issue was taken way too far. It was the fuel for a rivalry between two clans that is now bordering on criminally malicious words being regurgitated back and forth between the Contumelious Clan and the ISBHoD.
It's obvious that some people can get a bit carried away. I voiced my opinion on this subject openly, which I regret, but I don't see the need for you to come here and chide everyone for discussing this issue. Blobby was a very active voice in these forums, and even admitted to his cheating in these forums, therefore we are free to condemn his actions in these forums, as those were his terms. This crap about people learning that owning up to their mistakes will get them punished is ludicrous. Of course you will be punished for cheating! The onus is on you and your conscience to deal with that. Are we to handle teenagers on this site carefully because they might end up damaged one day? Rubbish! If you are not prepared to learn from your mistakes then you are not prepared to live in this world. This is a chess site, not a teenage chat forum.
Godspeed, Blobby, I hope that once all this blows over you will return under a new identity to find new friends here waiting for you.
For now, everyone, please, let's just forgive and forget, and stop going over and over this issue like a bunch of crazed old gossiping ninnies.
Originally posted by shavixmirLike I said in my previous post. It's not fair to make an accusation against someone who's not here. And matters of cheating should be addressed by the mods.

Originally posted by arrakisAnd like I said, Blobby was removed from the site by Russ within two days after his admission that he cheated (although he falsely claimed his "Dad" helped him). The situation WAS brought to the attention of the Game Mods and prompt action was taken. How it's "not fair" to "accuse" someone of cheating, who admitted cheating and was thrown off the site because of it, is beyond me.

I do not agree with Shav's premise that Blobby's age should make him immune from facing the consequences of his actions and I feel that anything less than what was done would be truly unfair to the many people his age on this site who play fair. It would also send the wrong message to Blobby himself. Perhaps people should go to the Rise of the Elite thread in the Clan Forum starting at page 4 and get the whole picture before they come to the kneejerk conclusion that he was treated harshly; he cheated, he lied about the extent of it and until he was caught he bragged about winning games that he would not have won without cheating. IMO, he deserved the full punishment he got.
Originally posted by no1marauderShav never said that Blobbys age should have made him immune, just that he should have been more sensitively treated. I think this is a sensible point. We are a community, if you break rules you should expect punishment. I don't think many would disagree with that, but witch hunts and vilification, of a child, aren't what we should aspire to as a community.

Preach over.
Russ said this on December 2 when banning Tlai1992 who was the same age or younger than Blobby:
Serial cheaters can obviously damage a site like this where you need to be able to trust your opponent to get the most out of it.
I do not recall anyone saying he was on "his high horse" or had anything "up his arse" at the time.
I want to weigh in on this situation. Blobby got the equivalent of the death penalty for the site. He broke the rules. We know his age. What more needs to be said? I have a kid his age. In hind sight I can see where his behavior was escalating. Not just here but on another site. He was a little boy trying to play with the "big dogs" and I'm not talking about chess. He wanted to fit in and instead of fitting in he wanted to be noticed in an insatiable way. I don't know what his homelife is like, but if I were his dad, I would have insisted he take a break from the site. I would have monitored his activities on the site and I would have made his participation contigent on respectful behavior. The issue of his ban is probably the last thing Blobby needs to focus on. The first thing he needs to look at is his ban being a symptom of something else.
Originally posted by shavixmiryou may well be right, however i have had the displeasure of being on the same thread as him and it did not take long before i was called such things as aselicker etc...
