Agreed; I like his singing too. It's not terribly competent, but it has a kind of melancholy, vulnerable quality that is difficult to be unaffected by. The tone he got out of his guitar was very similar.

EDIT I'm just old enough to remember when "Cherry Garcia" was made with black cherries upon his death, although I didn't know who he was at the time.

Errr,,They're both on my 50 list, which is on pg 3 of this thread. I did miss Jerry Garcia, like I said, I could probably do another 50 players. I thought everyone was going to present 50 playrs, seems I'm the only one who did. That was just the first 50 that came to mind. I should do another 50, or start a top 100 list.

3.Michael Bloomfield
4.Duane Allman
5.Mark Knopler
6.Albert King
7.Les Paul
8.Richie Blackmore
9.David Gilmour
10.Julian Bream

14.Steve Howe

18. Peter Green
19. Joe Walsh
20. Robby Krieger,

please note that this is not the exhaustive list as i got bored and also that there is no mention of 1. Eric Clapton, who could have produced something really artistic and innovative but chose to pursue a course of mediocrity and middle of the roadness, and none of the contemporary American guitarists Satriani, Vai, Timmons etc who are equally as boring. please do not take any of these comments out of context and repost them with your comments as they are merely reflective of my opinion and tastes which may or may not have any bearing on yours!

All of you Clapton bashers should check out From the Cradle to the Grave. Also the recording that he did with BB King. The man can still be inspired when surrounded by solid material and co players.

sorry didn't mean to be so rude, apologies, actually i really like Eric Clapton, my favourite being early Blues breakers and Cream, check out his playing on Roger Waters solo album The pros and cons of hitch-hiking, truly inspired, hopefully apology will be accepted and all will be well 😀
