Anyone else playing this awesome game?? Picked up a copy the other day. I've always been a fan of risk (the board game) but found it a bit frustrating that everything relied on the role of the dice. This game has it all! Turn based troup movement with real time battles, awesome!!! Im going to be moving slowly on RHP for a while i think!
Originally posted by RookRAKIm playing medieval, though i have the vikings expansion (which i haven't tried yet). The way you have the map of the whole world, IT'S ENORMOUS!! All the spies and diplomats, revolts and subversion. I always used to play age of empires (more recently rise of nations) but this is something else!! I wish you could play multi player campains, that would be awesome!
Absolutely!
Which one are you playing, Medieval or Rome?
They are both fabulous (Rome is newer) and addictive. I've lost lots of sleep deciding to play "just a few more turns" ... kind of like I do now with RHP.
Originally posted by marinakatombI love the game as well. The board game style to it is very unique and cool. Rome Total War's is different, but more realistic, and the battles are infinetely cooler. Great games!

Originally posted by chessnut57It's basically risk, were you have a turn to move your armies around, but you can also develop stuff, build stuff, send spies, assasins, order inquisitions on your opponents. Once you've done your troop movements you can actually command the battles in real time. It's frickin awesome!!
That sounds alot like the old Avalon Hill games. They made a whole series of them from real battle scenarios, Gettysburg, Battle of Britain, etc. They were cool. I still have one called Kriegspiel.
That's how the Gettysburg one was played basically. You started out on a specific day/time. The units for both sides were where they were in the actual battle. From there on it was up to you how to proceed, except the reinforcements for both sides had to come from exactly where and when they did in the actual conflict. Each side could move any or all of their units in their turn, terrain affected movement, defence or attack etc. I'll have to check Total War game out. Thanks
Originally posted by MIODudeI had that game on my old Gameboy...the green and black kind. Fun game. My favorite unit was infantry...invisibility until you attacked and getting the surprise bonus was awesome.
sounds similar to an old nintendo game., Nobunagas Ambition.. loved that game!
I remember the cannons were more powerful somehow, but I don't remember how...
