If you pay me 30 bucks you can insult me...

I've been shot a few times, I doubt there's anything anyone can say that would really hurt as much as a couple of bursts from a Kalaznikov...

Why should there be limits? If a TV channel wants to do 10 minutes of show and 50 minutes of commercial, let them. They will lose viewership and the commercial time will be worthless. It's all about the free market. Competition between channels will always keep it reasonable. As tivo and other digital recording systems become more and more popular, we may be ...[text shortened]... ey would offer Doritos, Mountain Dew, and a specific brand of car to certain challenge winners.
For me, 50 % adverts is enough to make me stop watching. About the 'subtle' ads where products are shown in the course of the program, we can live with that, at least someone on the show is profitting from it, thats a bit differant than interrupting a program to do ads, especially every two minutes. Thats how much actual show time I saw on that admittedly stupid sci fi program. Don't you see what I am talking about here? If you only get two minutes before the show is interrupted then you can't do much in the way of character or plot development before a commercial disrputs your connection with the program in the first place. It was disconcerting to say the least.
Maybe in 50 years the progression of short attention span theater will advance to the point where you get one minute of show and three minutes of ads and nobody even knows there should be anything differant because the whole generation grew up that way.

For me, more than 5 lines in a post is enough to make me stop reading.

You are always welcome to not read them.

I've always considered that a blessing.

Deal or No Deal interrupts their show every 3 minutes or so. Because of that, and the blatant lack of content, I am no longer going to watch. If enough people are sick of the ads, they will lose viewers and the increased ad time for the show won't make them more money.

Exactly the point I made the first time.

I was once so disgusted by how annoying adverts were getting (particularly McDonald's at that time) that I wanted to start a website where people voted for their least favourate advert. All members would agree that when any of the top 5 were aired they would change channel - the (vague) hope being that if it were popular enough with enough people switching off that other advertisers would realise that their ads wouldn't be seen if aired after the top 5 that they would refuse to be aired after them, pushing the networks to stop showing the most annoying ads or lose revenue from the others.

Wishful thinking I know...

I actually make an effort to make sure I avoid buying anything that is advertised during the F1 Grand Prix.

This event is full of adverts plastered all over the cars and circuit anyway so leaving the action mid-race seems a bit silly to me.

In the UK, we have the BBC which thankfully does not show adverts but because people are not willing to pay as much for the service any more they are losing lots of sporting events. It used to be a real joy to watch entire episodes of the Simpsons with a single commercial.
