Pipex have been anoying and I told them to disconnect us, cos we are so DONE with them! Anyway I'm loking at going with Virgin for our landline now. Do any of you use them instead of BT and how do they fair?
Cheers, Yim.

Never used them myself but from what I've heard they're in the same league as Sky or BT. The service you get is good and every thing's great until something goes wrong and you have to call them up. Then it's long queues, useless call-centre staff and problems that never get resolved.

Word of warning though. Virgin has been testing new tracking software on their broadband service to prevent file sharing. If you illegally download music or movies, avoid Virgin like the plague.

Do we have any idea on how long before other ISPs start implementing similar monitoring software... i.e. is this going to become a trend?

A possibility, although some ISPs might not do so for fear of losing business, but they wouldn't advertise this fact.

"We wouldn't even track your illegal file sharing!"

Is there a website where we can check which ISPs check that?

I swap about quite a bit between ISPs for my home use, and Virgin are fine. (I'm using right now for broadband and landline.)

A few short outages on their broadband, but most people wouldn't even notice, I'm sure. The most basic broadband offering is plenty fast enough, so don't waste your money "going large". Before the rebrand from NTL to Virgin the customer service was worse than horrible. No idea if things have improved now. Can't comment on their TV offering either.

Oh, and my actual install was sloppy. Installer left a total mess in my front garden. At least it worked unlike when the NTL guy finished at a previous house.

I doubt it. Most ISP's don't want the hassle or burden of having to police their customers.

I had Telewest before the Virgin merger and by god am I glad I switched over to Virgin. Fast, reliable, good price and helpful setup and the missus gets ANTM on the TV, which makes her happy.

I get my internet and phone through Plusnet. They have given great service on both - and the customer service is available on a landline in the UK!!!

Thanks everyone. Seams our postcode isn't covered by Virgins fibre optic lines so it's back to a BT line for us afterall. Not having a landline is more anoying then dealing with Pipex was!
I know the problem will still be on the line though and so I'll be calling someone at costomer service again every few months. Anyone know of a phone company whos customer service in exellent?!
