Well, I think there are reasons other than recs for why this place can be nasty. The recs certainly don't help though. Plus, as a veteran, I can tell you that this place was just as nasty when I joined, just not so much in General, more in Debates. But I agree, I would have no complaints if the rec system was completely abolished as long as there was some system implemented where people can easily view how high on the totem pole I am.
