I have windows XP. It runs very slow though I have tried to remove some programs, defrag, etc. Does anyone have a link or info that will show me what programs are unnecessary so I can remove them. How about any unnecessary startup programs.

Thanks in advance!

if you type in msconfig at the run line and click on the last tab it will show you what programs run at start up... you should expand the command area so you can see what the programs are.... personally, i think you just need a bit more ram

btw: a lot of programs (especially windows utilites) and services run at start up, you can tweek it so that only the programs you need start at boot up, however, this takes a lot of time as with some programs its a case of turning it off, starting up and seeing what doesnt work, talking from experience i wouldnt bother, even turning the whole lot off doenst speed up boot up that much

I have a Sony with 512 ram so you are right. I do need more.

I think it's time for a new computer but I'm undecided on what the best is to by. I wanted one with 2 - 3 gig ram.

Thanks!

hit ctrl+alt+del to get the task manager running. check from the processes tab which programs are use your resources. from the performance tab you'll see whether your cpu & ram resources are in full use, which I very much doubt is the case.

removing windows programs won't likely do anything.

It always runs slow. It seems there are programs running in the back ground that cause this!

Nah it's Angry Kid - there's loads of short clips on youtube, as above.
I think he's really funny.

I've changed it to Benny Hill for the time being.

Not as slow in regular mode. It may be the Internet is the problem for me.

Thanks for everyone's help!
