I think it's safe to say that most males who owned the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) will know what that title means. It's the start of a cheat code for the game Contra. It's THE cheat code, actually. The most famous one...they have t-shirts and blog postings about it.
It is the holy grail of cheat codes. You can recite those words to most males around the ages of 25+, and they will not only know what you are talking about, but will finish the code outloud, in an automatic response.
The reason I'm posting a thread about it, however, is due to the fact that is has recently come to my attention that many people have different versions of the code. The traditional code, as most people know it is this:
1. up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start
I thought this was the way it was, period. End of discussion. Lately, however, I've heard different variations, such as:
2. up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, B, A, Start
or
3. up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, B, A, Select, Start
and even:
4. up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Select, Start
So now I'm a bit perplexed, as it were. Which is the correct code? Or, is it possible that there are different variations to the code, all with the same result? Could all 4 of these be correct? Anybody know?

God, I'm a nerd. I've heard of this code, it was on a poster of some big robot thing from some game, and he was saying it outloud in one of those speech bubbles. I think the first one was right, but I think Select is in there somewhere.... Not 100% sure though. And what the heck is Contra?

It was the hardest platform (contender for hardest overall) game ever made.
You had to be almost perfect to get through even the second level and it got much much worse from there.

However, the code does bring back memories...I hated the old codes like that, up up left right left right up down A B select up up up down left right left right up down down right left right left down up B A select down down down. I remember that one for a SNES game once, I think it may have been Killer Instinct, I'm not sure.
