I know. I got to catch a little of the Brazil match the other day, and I have to say, I'm hooked. The amount of skill and conditioning it takes to play that game is amazing.
gooooooooolllllllllAAAAAssssssooooo! 😲
You get the picture.

Who cares, you foreign jerk?? Soccer is for losers.
Advice: go and kick a ball around- you might even shed a pound or two.
Originally posted by orfeoI agree. I was impressed with the US actually. They played well and even though I thoroughly dislike the violence from both teams, I thought it was an exciting and interesting game. One of the better games yet (entertainment-wise that is).
And they outplayed Italy for considerable parts of the game. They even kept attacking when they were down to 9 (although not in the last ten minutes, they kind of shut down and were playing with fire a bit). Landon Donovan was particularly outstanding.
Of course, Argentina is the most pleasant surprise in the tournament so far. 🙂

Originally posted by JusuhI hope so, but I have my doubts to be honest. Zlatan is like the swedish Ronaldo. He's supposed to be a star, but he doesn't do a whole lot yet. Freddie plays well, but he can't do everything himself. Henke is good. Kim Källström played extremely well last game so hopefully they can lift the team to prduce wonders. If not, I'm afraid I'll be cheering for Argentina soon. 🙂
hey stocken...think Sweden will make to second round??
Although, England hasn't played amazingly well either so far, so we might beat them (or at least draw), and then we're onto the next round. Right? I fear and admire Beckham and Rooney though.
Originally posted by orfeoThe downside of this is that it raises the likelihood that the game will hinge on a decision by the referee. Combine the low scoring with the game-breaking impact of certain calls (PKs especially, but also red cards and sometimes offside), and you have a game that at times seems designed to create the maximum possible controversy about the officiating. This is probably my least favorite thing about soccer, which otherwise I really enjoy.
One of the reasons soccer is so popular around the world is BECAUSE it is relatively low scoring, not in spite of it. It's what makes upsets and dramatic matches possible. There was a statistical analysis a little while before the World Cup that showed how a weaker team always has a chance because goals are inherently infrequent - whereas in higher-scoring sports, a generally inferior team is pretty unlikely to benefit from a 'purple patch'.
I agree that the US generally outplayed Italy and deserved the draw. I don't think their chances of moving on are all that slim-- if they beat Ghana and Italy beats CR they are in. I'd give them about a 30% chance.
Originally posted by stockenI wouldn't worry about Mr Becgkham. He hasn't played well in an England shirt for years. The theory is he has incriminating photos of Sven somewhere.

Originally posted by gambit3I doubt that Jusuh remembers Gen. Patton but, if I remember correctly, that was the war in which Finland sided with the Axis (June, 1941) until the Axis had obviously lost and then sided with the Allies (March, 1945). Evidently the Finns also loved a winner and were not going to tolerate a loser.
That is funny. I remember what Patton said. Ja here it is "America loves a winner, and will not tolerate a loser, ...... .
Originally posted by RavelloHome. I suspect they'll go somewhere more exotic than even Cutro. As soon as Totti and co or Beckham and co or Ronaldo and co play their last game in this WC they're off on holiday. We can tell that some are keener on this than others.
All I have to say is that USA deserved to win just for the heart they put in the game.
If that is Italy I prefer they lose to the Czech Republic and return home.
Anybody been to Cutro?
Originally posted by orfeoYes, but it wasn't as malicious as people are making out. He should get a three match ban and be responsible for paying for any treatment costs to the other player's face, but let's not condemn him totally. He DID NOT intend to mame, it was an extremely careless and irresponsible action but not a pre-meditated act of thuggery.
De Rossi decides to use an elbow to the face. Easily the most deserved sending off of the tournament.
Originally posted by JusuhHope springs eternal, Jusuh. That's why some of us "jerks" thought the USA had a chance against Italy.
I guess it was pretty easy to hook up with Axis when huge Soviet Union decided to launch an full-scale invasion/attack against Finland...
I hope this conversation ends here and now.
