Well, I guess I got one for today too. I was just thinking of the fact that I was the only one with USA to win. Don't know much about soccer but the ref seemed awfully quick with the red cards.

first two red cards where correct.
1. elbow in the face.
2. tackle on the encle instead of the ball.
The third red card was just unlucky for that american player.
But 2nd yellow card is red.
Originally posted by DelmerHe was, and it spoiled a good game. The USA were equal to Italy tonight and could well still qualify but it's a big ask. Italy were poor, they desperately need to find a way of getting through defences. This will require new ideas, something imaginative. Even England would have beaten them tonight!

Originally posted by DelmerIts a trend of this World Cup. I've never seen so many yellows and reds for inoccuous challenges. Having said that the two straight reds were spot on. Pirlo is lucky not to have a broken leg, and McBride is lucky he still has his 2 eyes. The Pope sending off was a bit soft, but that's just a consequence of trying to approach the game in a very physical manner. Once he had the first yellow, he was walking the tightrope.

Fair play to the u.s. anyway. Huge leap in performance from the Czech game.

Ref vs. Announcer.
I watched an ESPN feed on CBS I guess (6) and the announcer got on a ref's case about the yellow cards and such. The announcer was even so bold as to say he hoped it was the last game he ever refffff'd. He was going off on the guy for not telling the guy he'd get a yellow card if he keeps grabbing. They even say Italy was upset with some of the calls.
Any thoughts?

I'd just like to point out that I was one of the "jerks" [on page 4] who thought the US might have a chance. π
A tie is a victory, wouldn't they be out with a lost game?
