Well, I guess I got one for today too. I was just thinking of the fact that I was the only one with USA to win. Don't know much about soccer but the ref seemed awfully quick with the red cards.
I had Portugal to win 3-0 and they had that goal disallowed in the last minute, I was fuming lol, but then expected Czech republic to beat Ghana easily, that didn't happen then Italy failed to beat USA so an all round bad day for my predictions!

Well done to the American team

first two red cards where correct.
1. elbow in the face.
2. tackle on the encle instead of the ball.

The third red card was just unlucky for that american player.
But 2nd yellow card is red.

He was, and it spoiled a good game. The USA were equal to Italy tonight and could well still qualify but it's a big ask. Italy were poor, they desperately need to find a way of getting through defences. This will require new ideas, something imaginative. Even England would have beaten them tonight!

Its a trend of this World Cup. I've never seen so many yellows and reds for inoccuous challenges. Having said that the two straight reds were spot on. Pirlo is lucky not to have a broken leg, and McBride is lucky he still has his 2 eyes. The Pope sending off was a bit soft, but that's just a consequence of trying to approach the game in a very physical manner. Once he had the first yellow, he was walking the tightrope.

Fair play to the u.s. anyway. Huge leap in performance from the Czech game.

In any case, the World Cup is a great tournament to follow. I'm going to miss it when it ends. Four years is a long time to wait for the next one.

All I have to say is that USA deserved to win just for the heart they put in the game.
If that is Italy I prefer they lose to the Czech Republic and return home.

HA!

it was a tough decision when I thought about which team would be worse. I was leaning on usa, but italy surpassed their usual suckyness.

USA Crushed Italy 1 to 1!

Edit! Hey guys... what is a 'striker'? If I had to guess he's a guy that can get in the box and ready for a pass to shoot a goal? I don't know, and I'd google it... but want to get some answers from the real fans.

Edit2! That's got to be the quickest rec I've ever got!

Ref vs. Announcer.

I watched an ESPN feed on CBS I guess (6) and the announcer got on a ref's case about the yellow cards and such. The announcer was even so bold as to say he hoped it was the last game he ever refffff'd. He was going off on the guy for not telling the guy he'd get a yellow card if he keeps grabbing. They even say Italy was upset with some of the calls.

Any thoughts?

I'd just like to point out that I was one of the "jerks" [on page 4] who thought the US might have a chance. 😏

USA now has a chance... they have never beaten Italy... but is this the first time they tied them?

A tie is a victory, wouldn't they be out with a lost game?

no, they've tied twice before.

This shows why the World Cup is the stupidest sporting event in history. A team which has scored one goal in two games only because one of its opponents knocked the ball into his own goal still has a chance to advance. Idiocy.
