Liverpool will still finish ahead of Utd this season. We are a team in the ascendancy. United are in decline.

Personally I hope they give Ferguson another contract. He's lost it and he'll never win another title with the scum. Although he'll always be thought of as a legendary manager (and in fairness it's hard to argue with that) his legacy will be blighted by the fact he has stayed too long.

If he had resigned when he said he would United fans would be saying this (no trophy last year, out of Europe, no chance of title, and taking League Cup seriously) wouldn't have happened if Fergie stayed. As it is he did stay, it happened and it's only going to get worse.

I agree that he probably should not have stayed.

I would not say they are in decline, the problem is Chelsea are just so strong. Whether or not UTD finish higher than Liverpool remains to be seen. At the end of the day 2nd or 3rd are the same (cept maybe an extra qualifier).

Fact is through UTD beat Liverpool with a second string midfield on Sunday.

Please! It was the strongest midfield they could put out for that game. I still believe Liverpool will be in second place come the end of the season.

Man Utd are in decline. Yes, Chelsea have the ability to buy all the players they need, but look at other clubs competing with Man Utd (Liverpool, Tottenham), they haven't, and are still holding their own. The fact they flopped out of europe this season further provides strength to the arguement that Man Utd are nowhere near the team they once were.

Old Trafford is still a fortress. Chelsea (41) Arsenal (49) and Liverpool(ahem, 12) have all had good unbeaten runs before going there and all lost. Well done. Goal was good one and Giggs free was perfect but ye are a shadow of what ye were. No reference to any other team stops this being true.

Great to see I must say.

Agreed that they're in relative - to Chelsea raising the bar and their own recent history - decline, but I don't think it's going to last very long. I do share the belief they'll finish third behind the 'Pool this season, but for me they're only a couple of central midfielders away from being as strong as previously. Ronaldo has under-performed this season (father dying, couple of minor injuries etc) and they've missed Heinze. Evra will provide quality cover for Heinze, and they've already addressed finding a decent partner for Ferdinand at the back. Provided Fergie buys a couple of central midfielders this summer I think the 'decline' will be reversed very quickly.

As a Spurs fan though, I'll just say how much I'm enjoying this season. 😀

They are certainly not the team of 99.
As soon as United lose a few and go a season without a trophy everyone says "They are in decline".

To use the old saying "They are rebuilding" would suit better than "They are in decline".

I would guess Utd will finish 2nd.
Liverpool may however do well in the champs league given how well they are playing @ the back & the fact most of the big teams have drawn each other.

I would certainly rather still be in the champs league than arguably be in pole position for 2nd in the league.

You must be.....

It is a pity Chelsea have run away with it because if not, then it would have been shaping up to be one of the best finishes to a season in a while.

Agreed utd do need a replacement for Keane, but i am unsure as to who. Gettuso would be my bet but whether he would want to come & whether Milan will sell him is another story. Ballack would also be good & i reckon we stand an outside chance of landing him.

As for Evra and Vidic - well i am not convinced yet. We have certainly missed Heizne, quite why fergie did not switch Silveste to left back and play Brown and Ferdinand from the begining i don't know.

Glad to see Solsjaer on the mend because he can prodive an outleft on the right and hopefully he can regain his super sub form, whether he can or not i am unsure.

Liverpool? I mean come on, they say they are the greatest ever but when did they last win the league? They had 12 good years, that's all, out of a history of over 100 years, and that owed to Bill Shankly the likes of whom we'll never see again, who could have got Formby into the top division. Before 1977 and post 1990 they've done nothing but loiter round the top 6 picking up occasional trophies. Yes, Liverpool, you are the form team right now and do stand a chance of catching Chelsea, but if you finish second consider it an achievement because apart from the twelve years I refer to it's well above your station.

Yes, the greatestever. It is true that they haven't won anything major for 12 years (EXCEPT THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!!), but I am sure before Man Utd had their period of dominance in the 1990's, people could have said the same thing about them.

Liverpool now have a very good team, as good as Utds, and are now right back in it.

(By the way, before anyone asks, I'm an Aston Villa Fan)

Old Trafford is still a fortress? Of the current top 5, Man Utd have the worst home record this season.

And whats all this about a free kick? The goal was a header by Rio ferdinand from a corner.

I know, I did. Hey, I support Crewe and Roma, and we'd give a lot to have had Liverpool's long term success (and current form), but for some strange and mysterious reason, neither Crewe nor Roma can stand Liverpool, so I get to feel it in stereo.

COME ON CHELSEA!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Should have said fortress vs Top opposition.

Ferdinand headed in a lovely Giggs free kick.
