It has been released that Bush planned the War on Iraq from day one of his election campaign, and anyway, what would the voters of Florida say about that😉?
If anything, Bush JR is worse than Bush Snr, and that is saying something. The man has something wrong, what with napping when meeting with the head of a foreign country 😛.
I have a question. Why is it that everytime someone starts a sensible thread to discuss politics and what is going on in the world, people automatically start defending the U.S. and automatically get offended when nothing offensive has been said?
If you are so uptight about these topics that you have to immediately assume a defensive posture and can't take part in a simple discussion, that tells me a lot about our country right there.
I just don't understand how a question of our opinions on if the "war on terror" can be won is "bashing the United States".

Originally posted by flexmoreOkay, maybe it was started as a US bashing thread but, in my opinion, no the war on terror cannot be won. The reason is that guerilla tactics are very difficult to defeat in a conventional way. As long as people feel the need to fight in this way, terror will continue. The only answer is to stop the desire for people to attack you. How to do this is more difficult, especially when dealing with irrational people with unreasinable goals.
i like agreeing with everyone, and i get to again!
i think this was a u.s. bashing post, but it is also an interesting question.
In Ireland they did it by giving the terrorist leaders government jobs (bribery) and letting the rest out of jail.
😲😲WARNING - - -MAY CONTAIN CONTROVERSY- - - WARNING😲😲
I am here to agree with Varg (sigh😞) that the ""WAR ON TERROR"" (double sigh😞😞) cannot be won. There is always, ALWAYS going to be someone who wants to go to the big Intimacy Trailer with 50 virgins in the sky.
Just today, a woman disrupted the peace (heh, whatever) between Palestinians and Iranians when she bombed an outpost on the Gasza Strip, killing 3 soldiers and 1 civilian.
She even left a video to her kids about what she was going to do.
If a women (I'm not sexist) can disrupt peace like that, what the HELL (CONTROVERSY!! WOOP!!WOOP!!) can others do with ten times as much force behind that? Better yet, what the hell will G "Dubya" Bush do?
Originally posted by ncrosbyYou raise a fair question that I would like to address. Somewhere along the line through propaganda some of our people have come under the illusion that to question the government is "un-patriotic". While I am happy to know that these people care about our country and wish to support it, these misguided individuals are in fact doing nothing short of granting victory to the terrorists.

The entire point of terrorism is to disrupt the normal workings of a country. Every time we are subject to counter-terrorism measures, the terrorists have won. Every time we pass laws like the Patriot Act (SO unappropriately named), the terrorists have won. Every time we change our plans because CNN has "Terror Alert is High", the terrorists have won. Every time these things occur, it is a little victory for the terrorists, and post-mortum at that. The absolute worst thing of all though is when we do nothing. When we sit idly by and let our leaders dictate the course of OUR nation by nothing more than what THEY think is right, when we have open ears and closed minds, when we stay silent while events that shall govern the rest of our lives are made, the terrorists haven't just won another little victory.....they just won the war.
Holding informed opinions and speaking out for what you believe is correct is'nt just your right , it is your obligation as a citizen of the USA. This is so important that I just can't stress it enough. THIS is what defines us and makes us great. Love of your country is a wonderful thing my brothers and sisters, but in the USA if you love your country and want to support it the greatest thing you can do is speak your mind.

If you think your leaders are taking your country down the wrong track it is your patriotic duty to criticise them for the good of the nation.
Originally posted by TDR1I thought GWB was strongly critisised for his initial lack of reaction to 9/11, from what I saw on the TV over in the UK and read in the press, it was the Mayor and Governor of New York that seemed to be helping the American people come to terms with the whole thing.

On an other point, the ability to question the actions of your government is a cornerstone of modern democracy. That's why Sadam was bad - he took away personal freedoms. As "leaders of the free world" I am sure all Americans are proud we all have the "right" to question your actions 😉

It is a valid question and the answer is an easy one...no, it can't be won.
