Okay, I'm American, fully ignorant of the business of the World Cup. I am going to try to follow the WC and cheer on the US, of course, who, from what I've read, have a very competitive squad.
In Group E are also Italy, Ghana, and the Czech Republic. What I'd like to know is this: how are the countries grouped together? What criteria are used to determine the grouping?

This and group C are the toughest groups by far. Ghana are scoring for fun the US are rated 5th in the world rankings. The czech rep are 2nd!!! Italy, the favourites are actually only 13th
It would not supprise me at all to see italy finsh last in the group. They start against Ghana and I think a big shock is on the cards as they always start slowly.

Mexico may be ranked 4th and the USA 5th in these ratings. But come on ! These ratings are stupid! The only reason Mexico and the USA rank so highly is because the rest of North American football is so bad! All these constant wins against the likes of the Dominican Republic and Bermuda get these countries high up in the FIFA tables but they wouldn't be doing so good if they had to play in Europe or South America.
