My uncle took his partner off to Florida and married her (years ago). My gran was upset at the time that he hadn't wanted family to join in their happiness. It's different for you thouh, because your wife-to-be's family will be there, and it's more about her then you really!
My brother and his Japanese wife had their wedding in Germany because they wouldn't have been able to afford a Japanese wedding (but her mother and sister attended the wedding, even though it was very difficult to persuade her mother to travel to a foreign country). They had to stay away from Japan for a couple of years because it would otherwise have been expected that they have a wedding party there as well. Yikes! Luckily things are more relaxed in Germany.

i wouldn't mind buying some real estate in China - in Shanghai, say. what's the drill?
I would be on the same wagon were it available. Afraid not. There's also no land left in Hu (Shanghai) to buy...... it's all accounted for upto 75 miles in any direction out of the city..... 🙁
Wuxi is the place to buy... gona be a massive city and industrial place in the future - already on its way. But you need a Chinese wife first! 😉
