He broke the first commandment...you mean he had other gods befor Yahweh? Does it say that in the bible not in your commentary? Or by the first do you mean the first in jesus list meaning he killed someone? If so I gotta ask the same question...where is that in the bible...NOT in commentary.

Yes, it does seem like a missed opportunity here. Jesus could have given this rich kid the information he needed, and obtained a rich sponsor for his group.

Rich sponsor? Give us a break...are we all supposed to check our brains at the outside of this thread so we can believe you. He was asked and if he is god and as the new testament says god is love, then his answer was NOT the one in the bible. however if he was a hothead like most of the posters here, maybe his answer was accurate but a hothead is NOT god.

But remember, this is the Bible; there's usually some point for it being written down

There is usually a point to anything being written anywhere or is this a phenomenon that is suddenly peculiar to the new testament? BTW as long as you brought up the "topic" what exactly is the point of two different creation stories and the two different genealogies of jesus?

This rich kid responds to Jesus's demands for perfect obedience to the law by saying 'no problem dude, what else do I need?'

Ok but where did jesus call for perfect obedience? He only mentioned 5 commandments and a portion of the Shema. Remember there are 10 commandments (not to mention the 613 others).

Here he is, he thinks he has followed the law perfectly.

Don't understand where that leap of logic is justified. If jesus only mentioned 5 commandments and one line from the Shema, how could the kid think he kept the entire law perfectly? Are we to believe that the kid (young man) was mentally challenged?

The kid thinks he has kept the "10" but he did not notice that Jesus said: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (vs 19).

Firstly weather the young man kept all 10 commandments or not isn't the issue. He was asked about 5 and he responded about 5. Anything you say above that is nothing more than speculation on your part. Regarding the statement from the Shema, the young man didn't hear it? Again pure speculation. Does scripture say that? Do you know what the Shema is and how a Jew treats it (uses it)? A Jew recites the Shema before he gets out of bed each morning, he also recites it before he shuts his eyes each night. It is also said during the day. Now explain how he didn't hear one of the most important phrases in his life?

Here we have it. Jesus has summarized ALL of the 10 commandment with 2: love God with all of your heart, mind, and soul; love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus has raised the bar here. He is saying that the 10 commandments are more than the simple list of do's and don'ts; it is essentially to love God with all you have, and love your neighbor as yourself.

And did the "teacher of the law" disagree? It seems that what jesus said was nothing more than a currently understood concept among Jews.

So Jesus says keep the law with perfection, both the letter and heart of the law, and believe in him

Where in the verses in question did jesus mention believe in him? Why are you adding to the text?

It is impossible for man, of his own accord to:
(1) keep the law technically perfect, and keep the heart of the law perfectly
(2) give up all you have and become a follower (a believer) of Jesus.

First thank you for NOT trying to explain the camel thing. Second clarify number 1. Do you mean the 10 commandments, do you mean the full 613, do you mean the two jesus mentioned or do you mean something entirely different? If you mean the 10, I am sorry but they can be kept. If you mean the 613 that takes some clarification but what is applicable to the individual can be kept. If you mean something else...depends what you have in mind. Remember, people before jesus have been perfect according to the bible. Just to mention two you have Noah and Elijah. And I suppose your right about number 2. With a brain NOBODY would follow jesus.

But with God, all these things are possible.
(1) Jesus death on the cross takes away our sins (perfect obedience)
(2) The faith to believe in Jesus is a gift of God

jesus died for our sins...wow...doesn't the old testament say we will all pay for our own sins? Doesn't it say a son shall not pay for his fathers sins? For that matter...the new testament even says the same things. Guess the bible is full of contradictions ๐Ÿ™‚ god gives us faith to believe in jesus or is it something else?

Have the christian denominations taken my suggestions yet and instituted sunday morning orgies? Some of those catholic schoolgirls are pretty hot.

The only thing that really surprises me about these threads is that anyone even bothers reading them. I tried to read the first sentence and fell asleep.

I have only one question: Dr. Cribs,as a fellow doctor and expert on illegal substances, what do you reckon RBHill consumes prior to posting on these forums?

Feivel,

You were an advocate of removing the Bible study threads to the general forum, because they were supposed to be religious spam. Now you are engaging yourself in a DEBATE with RBHILL on the subjects he is presenting to us.

You can't have it both ways Feivel. Either you stop debating on the General Forum or become an advocate of moving the Bible study threads to the debates forum where you can discuss the issues RBHILL is presenting to us in his Bible study threads.

...... you can't have it both ways.

Ivanhoe,

What EXACTLY is the problem in your miniscule brain? Did you read AND understand that I wrote in the Enough is Enough thread the words ORIGINAL TOPIC or are you just so anti-Feivel that you are against anything i post? Perhaps you should actually read rather than reading by faith ๐Ÿ™‚

You're formal (and degrading) way of reasoning cannot hide the fact that you cannot have it both ways.

We have to accept people the way they are. You do not make fun of a retarded person, but you make fun of a Christian. You do not make fun of someone in a wheelchair, but you make fun of a Christian. They are all people just the same, and there are many of these types of people. If RBHill was retarded and in a wheelchair, and was still attempting to preach on the street, would you still make fun of him? Or would you realise how much faith he has in Christianity?

Please don't make fun of him because he is a Christian doing what he believes is right. If you do not want to read his religious threads, then vote for the creation of a Religion forum.

Good idea let's vote. Care to start a vote thread? Can we set it up as a poll? Maybe we can get some response that way.
