I would like to nominate Grits. Which I have just been told by elvendreamgirl is:

"grits is corn that has been soaked in brine and then dried and ground. The whole soaked corn is also eaten heated and with cheese or tomatoes, onions, etc."

grits are best consumed with some high-flavored additive. I usually use mounds of sugar -- makes 'em taste quite good, actually :-)
