Ha! I only ever use bics or other poundshop shavers, but then again I only have to shave once every 6 months or so (you gotta love alopecia for its economy benefits!).

I had that done not so long ago in Durham. She did a good job, although I don't think it feels all that comfortable.

As I was driving home I was cussing, as you do, at the extortionate cost of Gillette shaving blades. That got me to thinking that maybe I just didn't browse the shelves well enough.

I wonder if there are blades of similar quality and longevity as Gillette Mach blades, bu ...[text shortened]... ?

What do you use that you find gives a close shave, and satisfies your chin's day?

"Wet shavers" that phrase brought something pleasant to mind.

Anyway, as for the actual subject here, I buy generic off-brands at at tiny fraction of the cost.

Yes, I'm diverting the thread a bit, but to reference Palynka, I switched to a safety razor a few months ago for the very reason that I hated dropping a pile of money on those damn cartridges. The initial investment is a bit up-front (30 USD for the razor, plus I use a better cream w/brush, at about 25USD, and a box of 100 blades for about 20USD). But, I shave about 2-3 times a week, and I've had the same blade on there for 2 weeks now. It does take some practice, as you can cut yourself quite easily. However, being conservative in my calculations, I shouldn't have to buy another blade for about 3-4 years. And, my skin feels a hell of a lot better than before, because the cream avoids a lot of the chemicals and junk they put in cans.

Besides, it's pretty damn cool to use a brush and razor like guys did decades ago. My 3-year-old boy just watches in amazement every time I shave. 🙂

Get yourself the new top of the line Braun rechargeable - self cleaning foil shaver. It'll run you 300 bux but it's just as good as a blade and way faster. plus, the self cleaning mechanism means you just drop in the recharger and it's clean when you come back...plus you can take it in the shower!

Move to the 21st century folks!

I use gillette fusion power (5 blades). Each blade lasts about 4 months, much longer than my mach 3 blades used to last. I'm only on my second blade after buying the thing about 6 months ago.

It's possible that the way I use them helps the blade life. I only shave about every 2 or 3 days rather than once a day. I always have a shower first, which softens the hairs, and I never use any foam, just a bit of moisturising cream (on damp skin) which reduces friction quite well.

A 4 pack of blades costs about 10 pounds, but I reckon £7.50 a year on blades is ok. At that rate it would take 40 years to reach the cost of a £300 pound top of the line electric razor and in 40 years one of those razors would be dead.

Looking at all your conversions, I think a good currency hedge might be in order.
