I normally don't read comics, except for Asterix and Obelix, which is so funny I need to wear nappies.

But a friend convinced me to borrow his Kran (with an umlaut) series by Eric Herenguel (I think it's Scandanavian...I wouldn't know what gives me that impression though).

It's an adult-drawn comic about a barbarian and a sex-hungry dwarf.
I'm onto the third of the 5 I have borrowed...and they are crap.

The funniest thing being the Barbarian meeting up with Jimmy the gypsy and singing "all along the watchtower" to lull some werewolves to sleep.

Sigh...

I'm reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. Everyone who has seen me reading this has gone 'holy shit, that's a bit heavy isn't it?' and i've gone, 'actually, it's fricking hilarious and not a chore at all'. I'm on book 3 of 12 ...[text shortened]... range of emotions in touching nostalgic prose (quite unlike mine).
Another great heavy book is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. It has to be my favourite book ever - the redemption of the central character, Jean Valjean, is the most beautifully realised story I have ever read. Haven't read War And Peace but may give it a go.

Is it good?

Yes! Tolstoy never introduc ...[text shortened]... , he takes you through a wide range of emotions in touching nostalgic prose (quite unlike mine).
Two questions please:

1) What genre is War and Peace?

and;

2) I only just noticed but is your avatar eating a carrot or is it just me?

The first book is a bit slow (lot's of wealthy parties with prince's and the like), but book 2 is off the hook!! Every character has their own quality, something Tolstoy goes to great pains to describe. The story is about war and peace (literally, book 1 peace...book 2 war......book 3 peace!!..and war....), but the sub-text is that these people have qualities (as we all do), and you follow their 'realization of their potential,' through times of war and times of peace. It's brilliant, and it's only £2 if you go to book world 😉

1. It is set in Russia duaring Napolion's invasion. Read previous post...

2. It is no ordinary carrott! It is a Genetically modified, nucleur cooled issotonic carrott from the future. There is an explaination of this carrott in a previous thread, i'll have to dig it up... 😀

I just looked up the RRP and it should be £1.50 (for the Wordsworth Classics version). You were ripped off!

Erm, The Highway Code. It's full of twists and turns. Can't wait to read the ending. 😛
