I don't normally go in for the "indestructible masked murderer" movies, but I think the 1st Halloween movie was excellent. I also remember one, but I can't remember for sure what it was called, it had a doll called Chucky in it....Right about the time that movie came out I bought one of my little nephews a "My Buddy" doll (I think that's what they were called anyway) for Christmas. When he opened the package, I expected the doll to roll it's eyes, start talking, and grab the nearest butcher knife. 🙄

That's cause the original Halloween had the scream queen Jamie Lee 🙂

I figger the movie with Chucky was Child's Play.

Now for the scariest movie of all time...the movie that scared me the most was Cujo because that is all too possible (besides when I was a child in NYC we did have a few packs of rabid strays running around). As far as horror, when I first saw Linda Blair in the Exorcist I had nightmares for months (never went to see an R rated movie again till I was of age). More recently I had the same "chills" (no nightmares) from parts of The Ring, Darkness Falls, They, Ghost Ship, Visitors and Final Destination 2.

Ghost Ship was excellent!

Thanks for filling in some of the gaps in an old man's memory (re: Childs Play) 😵

Re: The Exorcist...before I saw the movie I read the book(definitely not the norm for me). I started reading the book around 9 p.m. and couldn't put it down, was up all nite, even though I had a Statistics exam at 8 a.m. the next day. The movie didn't compare with that experience.

malevolencemovie.com

This is the website for an independent movie called Malevolence which is hopefully going to find its way into theaters nationally and then on to DVD. I was at a premiere screening for this movie, and it is just about the scariest movie I've ever seen. The director scored the movie himself, and the score is really what drives this movie over the top, similar to what Halloween's score did for that movie.

I thought "Father of the bride part II" was pretty scary. I had to walk out the cinema on that one.

Fahrenheit (did anyone know that the name refers to the Dutch scientist who was the first person to make a stable temperature reading? And that no one knows why on earth he put the boiling point and freezing point where he did, which was ultimately the reason most people chose Celsius. And did you know that Celsius orginally had the boiling point at 0 and the freezing point of water at 100??? Bizar little world uh.) 911 was pretty scary too. In another sense.

I quite liked "sixth sense" as well.

The Ring. I was intending on calling my wife on her mobile after the movie ended, but thought better of it.

Nightmare on Elm Street.

"IT", by stephen king. Kinda lame ending, but my oath that freaked me out .. "The alll float ... they all float down here Timmy" . Hmm scaring myself right now..

The only part I thought was scary was when the lady watched the video tape and then the phone rang THAT was really scary!

A couple of my friends were watching the ring, and must have forgotten to call me and my buddy. go figure. We knew they were watching The Ring because they had an away message on AIM saying that's why they weren't there. My friend is a short guy 5'4 ish... And I had a great idea in mind... I had a wig left over from Halloween and we found a beat robe in my attic... Well we drove over there, peeked in the window, and waited till the movie was about ending when I my friend made the phone call to the house and we seen all of them jump. Now they answered the phone and he said "7 more days"... It was extremely believable too. They all look upset and worried. I felt like crying it was suck a beautiful sight. I rang the doorbell and told my friend to just stand there.... Well they opened the door and flipped out. They were all screamin were gonna die and I was a little scared at first too because I didn't want any of them doing anything stupid like killing themselves. I told my friend to stand there for a good 3 minutes and then just walk away. Well apparently someone in the house called the police, and with a minute there were 5 squads in front of the house. We considered running at first, but then realized that would be impossible. So we just got fined 500 each for stupid charges.... but it was well worth it

The only one that really springs to mind that really freaked me out was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, that damn childcatcher.

Another one but name escapes me was an old "hammer horrer" about Jack the Rippers daughter.

The mass murder slasher tpe have had no effect on me.

I suppose The Ring (the original subtitled version) put the shivers up me.
