While I was unsuccessfully looking for that list you were talking about, I found this gem by you: "By the way I'm a Lawyer and I never ask a question that I don't already know the answer to." Well, maybe you should start asking questions you don't know the answer to. That's what questions are meant for. If you ask a question, but are not interested in the answer because you assume you already know it and anybody who answers something else is wrong, it's completely pointless.
I've offered measured support for our learned friend this weekend and I'm not about to withdraw it because I have some sympathy for what he is saying (without agreeing completely), but the whole argument seems to be repeating and repeating and not getting anywhere.
There are two very strong arguments here and I see NO sign that either party is prepared to back down. So can we draw a line under it, maybe?
Fact is, some parents bring their kids up the Mary Whitehouse way and they end up with drug-addicted tearaways, and some parents loosen their grip and let their children see that the world isn't all milk and honey. Sometimes allowing children to see what the world can be like prepares them to live in it.
But sometimes it goes the other way. I doubt there's a perfect approach to parenting. 256 ways to wash the dishes, they say, so how many ways are there to be a parent?
