The dictionary is a recent invention. Spelling is maluable and evolves.

To be more serious, today I was giving cello lessons in a classroom (6th grade), and there was a test lying around. I skimmed it out of interest and found two spelling mistakes or typos in the questions (it wasn't a very long test, and as I said, I only skimmed it). If the teachers can't spell themselves or don't bother proofreading their own texts, how can ...[text shortened]... stories from her sons' school in Brussels (which otherwise seems to be a very good school).
What's an international phenomenon, Cello teachers puffreading? (it's 2 words)...... or crap school teachers?

Ask a teacher nowadays what 'attachment' is, or post partem or dyslexia (which they would never be trained to recognise for expense reasons). I bet you they cannot answer. Ask a teacher the cubed root of 27. I bet they cannot answer. They would ask what is a cubed root.

Yours truly might be a complete dipstick on this site, I hope. But I sure as hell know what teaching standards are, when necessary.

You should find it an honour that you saw these errors and remarked to yourself. The saddest part which you missed is that the examiners and graders of the test papers were mostly born after 1968 😛😛😏😏😀😀

I wasn't proofreading, and yes, it is one word. What I meant was that the declining spelling abilities among both teachers and students seem to be an international phenomenon.

I am sure every teacher here could tell you a lot about dyslexia (although they would call it dysleksi or lese-skrive-vansker). You could get the impression that 50% of the students have dyslexia. It's much easier to call the students dyslexic than to admit that there's a problem with the education system.

I had never heard about "post partem", so I googled it. Do you mean "postpartum" by any chance?

I don't know when the teacher who wrote and graded the papers was born, but I know when I was born, and it was after 1968. Nevertheless I would claim that my spelling is better than yours.

You passed the ultimate test.

Of course proofreading is one word, in English that is. That maybe a little different 3,000 miles (Not 5,000Km) to the west.

However, I still do believe you have become somewhat too serious in your responses.

I thoroughly agree that teaching has declined. Certainly in the UK students are achieving more 'A' grades than ever. When I questioned them, when I was there, they had no idea of the standards that I learned. In fact, they had never heard of what I experienced as 'such basics'.

Integrate, from first principles, cosh x. Not did they not know was a coshine was, they had never integrated.... mabe not even together, apart from a bottle of cider on a Friday night!

audi alteram portem principle is a play on words I thought you would grasp. Obviously not. Yes postpartum has a massive effect upon young children, specifically when they are at attachment age. That can cause severe learning difficulties later in life. More and more nowadays parents focus on their own needs and those not of their child/ren.

I would argue my case, that when I can be really bothered, like now, that my Engllissh, graco and LATTAN Spillanf wull alwais bettur yoars!

In tablino bebo! 😏

😵😵 Luv you too! sometimes.....
