-Removed-I suppose you still don't get the true meaning of my OP. What I really meant was "How does my IQ compare to the average chess player". I gave everyone the credit that they would piece together the simple information that because this is a chess site, everyone who posts on this forum is a chess player. Clearly I shouldn't have awarded certain people this compliment.
Originally posted by TygertI never claimed a persons IQ changes, I claimed that your IQ may or may not be as high as you state. You may not score any higher when you take the test again in a few years, that would make your IQ lower than it appears right now. In fact, it quite often happens that a young adolescent takes the test and is measured to have a high IQ then finds that it is lower when they take the test as an adult.
That just shows how uninformed you are. Your IQ doesn't change throughout your life; it is your natural intelligence. The reason they are age adjusted is because a five year old who gets the same score as a twenty-five year old is obviously way more intelligent and it would unfair to give them the same results.

Originally posted by MISTER CHESSI hope this will not be the case with me but in truth I doubt it will. I do anything possible to keep my brain as active as possible. You name it, the crossword, sudoku, reading Isaac Newton's Principia Mathematica, any books on science I can get hold of and so on. Mental exercise is extremely important.

Originally posted by TygertIf you suppose most people will be unable to see through this then you are clearly mistaken. When you first posited your poser you asked about your IQ in comparison to the average person, you didn't aim your question at any specific group. The author should not blame the reader for his own mistakes and should make abundantly clear that he made a mistake.

In your case you did not do this, instead you edited your post after making rude comments to another user and then claimed you edited it sooner than you actually did.
Edit: A wiser author is capable of taking criticism, whether right or wrong because to an author the readers opinion is the only one that counts.

Originally posted by MISTER CHESSI have already and you are clearly no better than some others. I've said sorry, let it go. I edited it as soon as the first comment came up because I realised the ambiguity in my OP.

It was thought out, I assumed that people would understand what I was really saying. I'm apologising for the ambiguity I have caused.
This is the problem, the smoke is apologising for the mirrors. You should be apologising for being rude and lying. Nobody cares about ambiguity as long as you admit your mistake. I believe you have admitted your mistake but you have purposefully done so in such a way as to make yourself seem somehow better than your critics.
I remember when I was a teenager. There were these puzzles that kept appearing on the back of the Daily Mirror. I could solve them all easily and then I read the small print. 'Become a member of Mensa, if you can solve this puzzle'. 'Send off for your official IQ test'. I sent off my details and soon I received a black and white, A5 IQ test booklet. I read the instructions on the front and set about my task. When I reached the last page there was some small print. 'Please send this test off to blah de blah with payment of £8.95 for your evaluation, otherwise return the exam to blah de blah, unmarked'. Bloody con merchants. I binned the test and hoped they wouldn't come chasing me, and of course they never did.
Originally posted by MISTER CHESSPerhaps because I am a more than a little ticked off after enduring disparaging and rude comments after I admitted the mistake. The "critics" should have realised that I stood corrected and kept quiet. Instead, I got a barrage of horrible things said about me which I really didn't appreciate. Now excuse me for not being as sweet as honey to them.

Originally posted by TygertYou only admitted your mistake recently, in the beginning you refused to admit anything beyond editing your post and only that after a whole page of replies.

Acting like you are superior is only made worse by the thread topic. I understand, do not worry, I was young and stubborn once as well. Nobody likes to be corrected, the mark of a truly superior person is one who is able to admit their shortcomings graciously.
Take a breath and reread the posts with a unbiased eye and you will see you have been in the wrong. You shouldn't worry about others who have been in the wrong as you cannot control them, you can only be gracious and hope they will be so in return.
