Actually you always have to be aware of where you are and your surroundings. Don't have to be scared about it though, just careful. 😉

Only you have spoken about anybody being scared. Sensible people are mindful of the risk of theft and take precautions, especially somewhere like Mcdonalds.

Especially when queueing for buses and trams you have to look out for pickpockets and thieves.

More recently it seems to be thieves on mopeds who snatch your mobile and whiz off with it.

Rusty, of course, would chase them down, no problem. (He jogs apparently every day and has politicians as friends).

True, they snatch your handbag or purse if you carry it on the wrong side.

The thread was based on a factual location, and the library I was in at the time did indeed have no windows.
