A better question these days might be which came first, the chicken/egg or the functional information found in DNA.

When I was a kid my dad posed this question, and then said there is no answer because it's an unanswerable philosophical question. But that may no longer be true given what we know today.

Easy, a sparrow had sex with an stork resulting in chicken eggs, the rest was manufactured in a lab. Actually chickens aren't natural, the rubbish that we eat today would not exist if we didn't exist.
