The above link has the information which may be interesting to some.
One of our local McDonald's outlets here in Halifax raised over $9.000.00 for the kids foundation recently I was told by the Owner who I know personally. I don't have a total of what they all raised yet. The money is used in the community which helps the kids in many different ways.

@Earl-of-Trumps saidYour Tim Nortons must be a lot better than the rubbish in the UK.
They'll never beat Tim Horton's because old man McDonald didn't play hockey!
@The-only-Mr-T saidI use to go to it years ago when I was a much younger man. I find they tried to improve to much making it stronger and just ruined it.

Unknown to many McDonald's now uses the original bean that Tim's started out with. They are in big competition here in Canada, both doing a lot of charity stuff for kids and other organizations trying to out do each other.
All are owned by individual owners but have to follow doing what the head office tells them. I know the Owners of several of the McDonald's and use to know a few of the Tim's Owners but I think they have sold or passed by now. I haven't seen them around in years!
I've never tasted a UK Tim's so wouldn't know. It is Tim Horton's not Nortons FYI. 😉

@Kewpie saidThey also do checks of the individually owned franchises periodically usually a few times a year to make sure the locations are up to their standards.
The McDonalds Corporation is publicly owned, with the largest shareholder being Vanguard Group. Franchisees do what they're told and mostly make a decent living, but the real estate is owned by the franchisor who extracts rental income as well as franchise fees.
One of the locations had to get permission from them to put 3 outside tables which of course have to be chained down. They look very nice and only cost $219.00 each plus tax of course. It must be frustrating when you have to get permission from someone else for a franchise you own. It would drive me insane, yes more so than I already am. 😉

@Very-Rusty saidA family member owns 2. It gave him a very comfortable lifestyle but he says the work and stress load required would destroy most people. Don't know how true that is for the whole cohort.
