I've played in two tournaments where Larry Christiansen and Walter Browne were participants.
Christiansen came into the bathroom and used the urinal next to me, my rating went up a hundred points shortly after that.

The majority of people I play offline are either friends or family. So I guess that would mean I am.

Are you calling me a rimmer?

Anyways, the biggest (real) chess name I've stumbled across was: Alekhine, Alexander.
Weighing in at a decent 17 letters!

61. Euwe was giving a simul (1959, I think) & my dad took me to watch...not play and I got his autograph. I played Rossolimo an offhand game at his chess studio in New York City once (lost) and in 1980 (?) played Reshevsky a correspondence game (drew). The rest of them I met at a couple US Champs & an Int'l tmt (when they were round robins) near my home in the mid-70's. Gligorich was giving a simul.

ya drew a correspondence game against Sammy Reshevsky? Good job, you got bragging rights for that.

He was offering to play "instructional" games for $35.00.
