I just googled gif avatar create, I think. This is the page I used with links to the software (which is free). I hate downloading software but no apparent viruses and I have scanned daily with AVG, Antivir and Norton.

No that was about 200 frames at 100ms intervals, obviously there are options for playing 1 frame for 10 seconds but I haven't worked that out yet, The GIMP2 is a little confusing, if you have any questions just drop me a PM.
