5) The Refs don't think they are bigger than the game itself.

Originally posted by darvlayI've never really understood the "inch for inch" comparisons...
...Even John Madden (that crazy nut) agrees:
"Inch for inch, Flutie in his prime was the best QB of his generation."
I mean, Doug Flutie is listed at 5'10". So if a guy is, let's say, 6'3", how much better does he have to be than Flutie in order to be better "inch for inch"?
Oh, I guess we could develop a formula of some kind, maybe taking a QB's height in inches (or centimeters) and dividing it by his QB rating... of course this might tend to overrate tall QBs who play outdoors in warm weather cities...
Maybe some variation of the Bill James power/speed number (used in baseball) might work...just substitute home runs and stolen bases with the player's height and QB rating..
Someone out there who has some time on his/her hands * is urged to develop a formula for this...because I think we would all agree, we don't have nearly enough stats in football !
Plus, if we had a forumla, we could retro-actively go back and figure out who the best QB in HISTORY is, at least 'inch for inch'...
* - unfortunately, I don't have the time to put into that just now, in spite of this post
(Yup, football season is DEFINITELY over, especially since no one watches the pro bowl...I might watch it if they ever had the guts to play it at Lambeau...watching a game played in Hawaii is like watching a reality show of NFL players going on vacation. Who the hell cares? I haven't watched a pro bowl since the 70s)
