Hi again Serendipity how are you? I don't know why it's predominantly liked by males, chess I mean, but I wanted a friend to teach me how to play chess when I was 22 years old and it took ages to get comfortable with the pieces and what moves they made. But once I got the hang of the game I really loved it. Well to be honest I still haven't ever got the hang of it completely, but I can say it's my favourite game of all times to play, and it's because it doesn't just depend on luck all the time. Like you have to know what you are doing and it's fair, and also I like that it's not a dice game. Because dice games even though they are fun do depend on luck and sometimes you can lose because of the dice, but with chess it's like you know you did your best and if you lose maybe you did a few mistakes and can do better next time. That's my feedback on why I love it anyway. And I love the way all the pieces are shaped too.

Why does there appear to be a positive correlation between males and chess? (why do men prefer chess more than women?)
The answer to this question relates in part to the theory that females are more typically in tune with the world on an emotional level, ie, women tend to have a more feeling oriented approach to solving problems and making decisions. In contrast males typically tend to have a more solution focussed approach to things, ie, for every problem there is a solution. Males, according to theory, like to be alone when faced with a problem and think things through and try to look at things from different angles. This could begin to provide some sort of explanation as to an apparent male preference for chess. Yes I hear you say but that does not explain why some women like chess. This has to do with “Androgeny” and male / female brains, tons more info online.
Hi Eric nice to meet you. I only met Serendipity last night my time on the forums and he is over in England and I am in Australia. He and I are just friends because he already has a girlfriend and at the moment I am very happy to be single. Talking about dating though, have any of you had online romances before? Because I went that route a few times when I was connected to the Net at home and never again. It has to be a person whom I can see and hug and laugh with and hold hands with. Otherwise on the Net it's strictly friendship and that's all. Especially if they are overseas and well even in my own country as well. Friends is best anyway 🙂
Originally posted by Luke7D you think androgeny is on the increase in contemporary society and if so why?? May be its because western society is a post modern one ie fragmented and that may lead to a fragmentation of gender?? Any thoughts

Originally posted by MaryRoseHi there, MaryRose, actually we were just teasing Serendipity a little only. There is actulally nothing more to it. after all in this place we are all to have fun thats all. I am really sorry about your broken romance or whatever which I have gotten to know through the forums as well. Good for Serendipity though. I am happy for him. Well, being single has its moments like there is no disturbance from anybody and you can do what you want to do and so forth.

On the other hand, sometimes we might feel lonely whenever we see a friend with someone whom they are with. well, I should know. 🙂
