too bad most of you don't have the money to obtain academic education. for us, it's practically free. my undergrad year costs me 80 euros. comparable education at MIT seems to cost $46,350. good luck with your 'economic prospects'. it doesn't seem to work out all that well at the moment.
With so many youth schemes (for football), junior programmes etc that are available in Europe and not America (due to a general lack of popularity/interest), this is hardly surprising ...
I think baseball (in America) might have a comparative structure in terms of identifying and training talented youth so how many major league baseball players in America hold university degrees?

Soccer is at best the 6th or 7th sport in terms of popularity in this country.

Our World Cup Edge

Going into today's World Cup match against Ghana, no American player has managed to put a ball into the back of the net, but the U.S. team does lead the world in one vital category: college degrees.
Most of the Am erican society. It will probably do almost nothing for our future World Cup prospects.
The top 5 being Baseball, American Football, NASCAR, Basketball, and Hockey. There's no room for Soccer beyond little kids running around a field on a Saturday afternoon while their idiot parents with the folding chairs and minivans sit by and cheer while fat little Cody trip over himself trying to dribble up the field.
All the best athletes in America get swallowed up by the other sports and always will.
Let's face it America sucks at Soccer and when the World Cup rolls around we are nothing but fodder for crappy little countries like Ghana and Ecuador.

What I find despicable is bragging about the quality of universities as a justification of a world cup loss.
Talk about bad losers.
