Can anyone give me a good reason to why one feels they must resign in a game? I personally believe that the resign button should be taken away, thus forcing players to finish their games.

I am just curious as to what is going through ones mind that they want to resign a game.

They probably figure that the game is over and that they resign as a courtesy to the other player not to prolong the agony.

Yes, but don't you feel that you should atleast finish the game as a courtesy to other player, besides they could always mess up. AND hasnt your momma ever told you to finish what you started

If my life depended on it then yes I'll finish it. It's only a chess game and if you are that concerned about ratings then I think you really need to get a life.

There are games in which you just know that your apponents next move will check mate you and there is nothing you can do about it. So, you push the resign button, why wait for something you know is going to happen?

It's standard practice in chess to resign when you get to a 'lost postion' why on earth would I want to continue say if I was a rook down against an equal player? In the unlikely event my opponent blunders to allow me back in the game it isn't as if I have done anything to deserve to be on level terms, and it's not as if am going to learn anything from playing out a lost game. I think its laughable rather than courteous to force your opponent to play out a game that he has already won, especially if he isn't a member and only has 6 games available to play.

You resign because you see you have no chance or little chance to win. Why keep more games when you dont even feel like play them and you know u lose?

easy 😀

It is like resigning a job. When you have got yourself a better job, you resign your current job. Similarly, when you have got yourself a better chess game, you resign one of your current ones.

well i am sure you have a lot more challenging games than our game, so why don't you do yourself a favour and resign. my rating goes up and it may very well equal yours. yeah, i could live with that!!! 🙄🙄😉
